Review: Kanebo KATE Goldish Eyes Eyeshadow Palette

Hi guys!

I'm finally back with another review this time :). It's all about the KATE goldish eyes palette in GD-1. KATE is a japanese label under the big mama label Kanebo and is targeted towards young females in their 20s. The packaging is very often sleek and black, not as girly as other japanese brands such as Lavshuca or Majolica Majorca.

I've been into korean cosmetics for a long time, but I never heard or read anything about japanese cosmetics until Asahi Sasaki came along. She was featured in one of Judy's (itsjudystime) youtube videos. There she mentioned some lovely brands and my interest was instantly sparked. Another great japanese make-up guru is the lovely KimDao.

Anyways back to the palette, I purchased mine at adambeauty for about 13-14 €, which makes it comparable to a L'oreal or Maybelline palette. Quality-wise I was a little disappointed at first. This is not my first japanese palette and the other one is fabulous (review to come)! It comes with four shimmery/glittery colors, two golden ones, a highlighting color and a darker color for lining or contouring.

Top left: shiny gold; top right: soft beige; bottom left: deep brown; bottom right: color gold.

The packaging is sleek, compact and robust. It's plastic, but didn't break all the times it fell down (accidentally).  First thing I was disappointed about is the fact that it doesn't contain a cream base, which a lot of japanese palettes come with. It would have really helped with the color, because the golden ones are kind of difficult to work with alone.  One tip: DON'T EVER use a brush with these colors. They won't stick to the bristles and the pigments will land all over you, except for your eye. The sponge applicator comes in quite handy and using your fingers to apply is not bad as well, but a nice sticky primer will bring out the best in them.

Pigmentation-wise the lighter and darkest color are good, very asian. Most of the east asian eyeshadows are sheerer for a more natural look. The lighter color is excellent for highlighting and the darker color is buildable, so nothing's lost. The lighter golden color is the worst out of the four shadows. It's chalky, super sheer and the glitter chunks are so big, your lids will look like christmas. It's also guilty of creasing. The darker golden color is fine, somewhere in between bad and good, but it looks pretty amazing for a one shadow look.

You see, I'm not really convinced of this palette and therefore wouldn't recommend it. There are better ones for the same price, considering the hassle of ordering from half around the world.
You've been warned!

What do you think of the palette? And is there any other japanese palette you would recommend?

Take care until next time,
xoxo Lily

P.S.: If you want to know some great looks to do with this palette and already bought it, check out Son Dam Bi's Beautiful Days - Class about cat and puppy eyes. Sounds weird, but quite helpful.
