big apology for skipping my post last week, but today I'm back with a review for you. Just like Lily I'm gonna review one of my palettes. Unfortunately it's one that I have already been loving for a couple of months (hence the "love marks" on it aka smudgy package), so I couldn't take pictures of a brand new product. Sorry!
So, please "Meet Matt(e)"
The Balm is known for their unique product names (Mary-Lou Manizer, Bahama Mama, Balm Jovi and so on), and this palette is no exception form that. The whole palette revolves around an (imaginary) guy called Matt.
Meet Matt(e) (The Balm)
On the back it even has his profile (saying: his height (6'2"), eye color (blue), what he enjoys (long walks on the beach, creamy eyeshadows & fabulous liners) and his occupation (eyeshadow palette)), so compliments for the package details, I really liked it.
The palette comes with an extra cardboard sleeve:
It consists of 9 matte colors and a double ended brush (and a slightly dirty mirror in my case).
I have to admit that the brush is not aaaamazing, but it's okay and it does its job quite well. The liner end gives a quite precise line and the rounder shaped end spreads the eyeshadow evenly across the lids. And so far none of the bristles have fallen of.
(1) Matt Smith, (2) Matt Gallagher, (3) Matt Ramirez,
(4) Matt McDonald, (5) Matt Horowitz, (6) Matt Chung,
(7) Matt Batali, (8) Matt Schilling, (9) Matt Patel
(1) and (6) are neutral colors that can be used as a base. (2) is a light brown and (3) a dark brown color, that both are perfect to contour the eyes and give them some depth. (9) is a light grey color that I like to use to fill in my brows. As you can tell from the picture above (4), (5), (7) and (8) are almost unused, simply because I just haven't figured out yet how to wear violet or blue on my lids (without looking like my eye's been bruised), except from using them as liners. But maybe I'll come up with a look sometime.
The darker colors have quite a bit of fall out if you're picking them up with your fingers, so using a brush is a must for this palette, but that's not a problem at all in my opinion, since I prefer using brushes. Huge plus is that they can be easily blended and built up.
I really, really like this palette not only because of the design but because it comes in really handy when traveling, because it has everything I need for a daytime as well as an night time look. I'd definitely recommend it, if you like brownish and neutral tones.
Out of 5 stars I'd give it 4,5.
As for the price - it's an affordable palette in my opinion, considering the fact that there are 9 colors included. I ordered it at kosmetik4less for 25€ (I'm not quite sure if this was a special price or if it's the regular price). But as far as I know The Balm also sells all the eyeshadows as mono eyeshadows by now, if you only like one of the colors.
Until then, take care
Jasmine
