Pandas and Pimples - Jasmine

New Week - New Topic.

It's time to attack those pandas and pimples! So get your concealer ready :)

First of all I have to apologize but there seems to be something wrong with my camera right now, so no pictures in this post so far, but I'll add them as soon as possible, so please bear with me :)

It's said that 9 out of 10 people have dark circles, so it's nothing to worry about but there's definitely something you can do about them to make yourself look a lot more fresh and awake.
When trying to beautify oneself pandas and pimples are not welcomed at all. So today I'm going to introduce you to different ways to cover them up and also tell you about the products I like to use.
On a daily basis I tend to put my focus rather on the pandas than the pimples (especially during exams when I study until late at night and the "slightly panda-ish" eyes turn into black circles). Usually I don't mind a few imperfections that aren't completely covered, but I think it makes a huge difference for your whole appearance when your eyes seem a little bit more awake.

To treat your panda friends you can choose between concealers and correctors.
Concealers are more for covering certain areas whereas correctors highlight and brighten areas, which is also a reason why you should never ever use a corrector to cover up a pimple - it just won't work, in fact it will do the opposite and put even more focus on the spot, so be careful when picking your product.

When it comes to texture it's pretty much the same with C & C and foundation - there's quite a variety that you can choose from. (And that probably explains why I own more than one concealer.)
For example there are cream concealers. Some of them are more on the dry side for example the MAC Studio Finish Concealer, and then there are also the not-so-dry ones like Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer. Try to avoid using the "dry" ones on your under-eye area because it's a very delicate part of your face. (Although I have to admit that the girl at the MAC Counter actually suggested me the Studio Finish Concealer when I was looking for something to cover up dark circles and when I have to deal with really bad dark circles I do use, but if possible - stay away from it. And if you can't avoid it at least apply a good moisturizing eye cream underneath.)
Both of the MAC products above are concealers, which means they match my skin color perfectly and can be used to cover up pimples or scars. If you want to brighten the area underneath your eyes, you should pick a corrector that's one to two shades lighter than your natural skin color. (For comparison: my concealers are NW 25, my corrector is NW20)
Concealers and correctors are not necessarily two completely different products. If there's a certain brand or let's say a certain concealer you're rally satisfied with and you're looking for a corrector as well than you might just go ahead and buy the same product one to two shades lighter and use that one as an corrector.
Personally, for correctors I prefer fluid textures (don't really know why) which is where my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer comes in. Apart from you under eye area, correctors can also be applied on your cupids bow, your chin, between your eyebrows/forehead and be blended away from your eyes towards your cheeks (if that makes any sense to you) to highlight these areas, but be careful not to over do it. (unless you are going for a Kim Kardashian look)

If you have ever bought a concealer palette you might have noticed that apart from different flesh colored pans, sometimes there are also pink and green. But what are they for?
Pink tones come in handy when your dark circles are very prominent and result from blood vessels shining through your skin. Pink is supposed to neutralize and brighten the whole area before applying your concealer or corrector.
Green tones are only useful for pimples (in my opinion). The area around pimples tends to be red and because green is the complementary color to red, it can help neutralized your skin color, before applying your concealer. If you tend to redness on your entire face, you might want to try out a green face primer. (Don't worry, you won't end up looking like Shrek)
Some people think that pinks/reds and greens are totally useless because you could just use a good foundation instead, which is true, but personally I don't like wearing foundation on a regular basis, so green is perfect for little spot treatments.

That's it for todays post.
Keep in mind that concealers and correctors only treat the results but not the ultimate cause of dark circles. Of course sometimes it's just genetics but in general you can say that keeping yourself hydrated and getting enough sleep will improve the appearance of your dark circles. As for pimples - well, that's skin care, which we will talk about in another post :)

Take care,
Jasmine

PS: I know all my concealers are high end products, but considering the fact that you're goind to use them for 1 year+ it's not that much of a splurge.
